Rend Lake's
19,000 acres provide lots of opportunity for sailing, fishing, swimming and
other water sports. The lake is a popular place to catch crappie, largemouth
bass, flathead and channel catfish, striped, white and yellow bass and
freshwater drum. There's also plenty of shoreline for picnicking, camping,
swimming, bicycling, and hunting.
A 27-hole championship golf course is located 5 miles from
the resort. For clay bird enthusiasts, there is a 10-station championship trap
range. There also are field dog trial grounds, with the park being the site of
regional and national championship trials.
A comprehensive wildlife management program provides habitat for water fowl,
upland game and non-game species. The area has wildlife populations common to
Illinois, including white-tailed deer, raccoon, opossum, and squirrel. Birders
visiting the area are likely to catch a glimpse of a great blue heron,
American bald eagle, red-tailed hawk, pheasant, or a variety of shorebirds and
waterfowl.
